WEM Revitalization

West Edmonton Mall is in the midst of an extensive renovation and enhancement project that is bringing a chic, modern design to all 5.3 million square feet. Award-winning Canadian firm GHA Design Studios is working with the Mall and their focus on environment and how it helps define one’s impressions, means exciting elements have been added to the shopping centre to captivate shoppers.

Two gathering areas within the Mall have been enhanced with unique, suspending creations by renowned Canadian sculptor Pascale Girardin. Floating handmade single and layered ceramic flowers, representing the Alberta Wild Rose, hang in in front of Victoria’s Secret, known as Rose Court, while cascading hand-blown glass “oil” droplets, celebrating Alberta’s richest natural resource, surround the Oilmen Statue.

In addition, both fountain features within the Mall have been redeveloped and soft seating has been added around them. The West Fountains, in Phase III, are now choreographed musical dancing fountains, known as the Fountains at WEM. The East Fountains, in Phase II, are now stunning infinity fountains.

Significant work has been done at the Ice Palace and it continues. Enhancements are also being made to Park Lane. Spectacular, elegant lighting fixtures have been installed and foreshadow what the area will become.

All major work in West Edmonton Mall’s revitalization plan continues to be done in the evening and early morning hours when West Edmonton Mall is closed to the public.
